GREEN

GREEN

green
surrounded in
my whole world
green
rich in leaves and grass

I taste green
smell green
sit in it
breathe it in
all my eyes
see and hold
eyes are arms
clinging to green
absorbing green
healing in it

bathing in a sea of green
liquid green
running over
and in me
turning my skin
my teeth my life
to green
I become a leaf
to be green

NOT THIS

suspended
life beside itself
says not it
this
but what is this
can't be named
a feeling that this
is not it

come stand with me then
and show me
what it is
where it is
if it's not this

draw its shape on the air
put a dress on it
what's on me
is not it
there is something else

this is not it
it is something big
and what matters
I wish to occupy it
if I can catch
sight of it

does this
that I always thought was it
have to be destroyed
before the shape
that's really it
can be defined

taking the leap
saying goodbye
to the confines of this
because this
is not it

Hurricane or tornado twists
then lightening
cracks and splits
 the forest's mighty oaks

rain soaks the shallow roots
spread out like giant fingers
on such little earth
 it takes your breath away
to see the fragile tendrils
holding on for their dear life

 maples, ash, white pines fallen
what's left of them have all my heart
in their decay unfolding
 folding back to earth

split leg

Broken
spine ripped
through my middle
down my seam
wind a horse of steam
unleashed heavens hand
mighty blackness forged forward
downward
to my roots
I thought were so secure
